Shuko are special knuckle dusters used as a tool in climbing, and can be used as a weapon in emergencies. Shuko are made of two bands joined by a leather strap: one crosses the palm and the other the wrist. The palm band has sharp spikes or hooks to facilitate tree-climbing. Shuko are a signature weapon of the Togakure Ryu school, with forms or series of movements dedicated to them. Shuko are also commonly practiced with techniques from Koto ryu, Gyokku ryu, and Shinden Fudo Ryu.
